What is AI CCTV—and what does it actually do?

AI CCTV uses computer vision to analyse video, distinguish selected object types and apply rules to their movement. It does not make a camera all-knowing, and it does not replace good positioning. It gives a correctly designed system a more useful way to organise events.

From pixel change to object classification

Traditional video motion detection asks a relatively simple question: did enough of the image change? When neighbouring pixels change beyond a threshold, the recorder can mark an event or send an alert. That approach is inexpensive and useful for creating playback markers, but it cannot reliably explain whether the change was a person, a delivery van, swaying foliage or a sudden patch of sunlight. Facial recognition, face capture and responsible use

Face capture, facial comparison and facial recognition are different capabilities. A camera may capture a face-quality image or allow a user to find footage containing faces without identifying the individual. Facial recognition compares a facial template against a reference database to infer identity. Where that processing uniquely identifies a person, it normally involves biometric data and may involve special-category data under UK data-protection law.

Does AI CCTV record continuously?

Can AI CCTV distinguish people from animals?

Can AI CCTV detect an object left behind?
